In case you're not up on your mythology...Calypso is a character in Homer's Greek epic "The Odessey." After the Trojan War, the main character Odysseus spends 20 years traveling home. Seven of those years were spent under the spell of the nymph Calypso on her island. In that same way, Budapest has enchanted us at the Calypso Chillout Hostel, and we just can't seem to leave! We want to share this amazing city with all who come to visit.
Calypso Chillout Hostel is located on the Pest side, just a few minutes from the Keleti train station and a few tram stops from the Nyugati train station. The area is known as the CROSSROADS of the city. Our hostel is located on one of the main streets so you can be sure that in our immediate vicinty there are supermarkets, 24 hour shops, resturaunts and pubs. However, we are high enough up that you won't be disturbed by the noise outside. We are located on the third floor, and our building does not have a lift. So if you are unwilling or unable to climb stairs, we suggest you book a different hostel.
Once you're ready to explore the city, we are WALKING DISTANCE from all the main sights. Since we used to be visitors ourselves in the city, we can help you maximize your sightseeing time by telling you what's a "don't miss" and what's a silly tourist trap.
Inside the hostel we create a COSY, FRIENDLY atmosphere for the sociable solo traveler, couple or small group. We want Calypso Chillout Hostel to feel like a community, not a hostel. We have a small number of beds, so you'll instantly feel like you're staying at a FRIEND'S place. We'll introduce you to fellow guests right away so you can get to know the people you'll have amazing memories of Budapest with! We invite Hungarian friends to join us on nights out, so you'll be sure to get a great mix of people.
Speaking of nights out, Calypso Chillout Hostel is NOT a party hostel. We are in a residential building, so we must respect the neighbors after dark and guests who want to take it easy or catch an early train. However, you really won't want to sit and drink in our hostel when Calypso Chillout takes you out nightly to show you the most AMAZING NIGHTLIFE Budapest has to offer!
With all the amazing nightlife comes recovery. Calypso Chillout Hostel actually has SPACE for you to chillout. We don't cram as many beds as possible into one room, so in the dorm you'll have room to breathe. And we don't mean breathing your neighbor's smelly feet! We also have a HUGE common room so you can stretch out and relax after a long day (or night!). If you want to cook to recharge your batteries, we have an American style kitchen and a fridge with oodles of space!
